More Than A Number
Every year during tax season, I run a contest for those who “like” my facebook page. The contest is “who can guess how many tax returns my practice will complete by April 30?” This was a staff game that was done at a larger firm I worked at previously. When I started my business, I thought it would be fun to do this with my social media community. As a sole practitioner with no staff at the time, it was a way for me to interact with many during tax season and really, just a fun game for all. And as my practice has grown, both with clients and staff, the game continues.
Game Rules: Sometime in February before we start doing any personal tax returns, I post the contest question and then everyone enters their guess over a 2-ish week period. Sometimes extra guesses are made available if you share the post or something along those lines. I provide the historical info of what has been done in the past so no one is guessing blindly. The only rules are that you must like my page, live in Canada and your guess must be original. Staff and family are also eligible to vote as no one can rig the number of returns done…not even me. As the number of people who play has increased, it has become quite difficult to maintain only one guess per person so when we come across a duplicate, we automatically assign the next number to them…maybe next year I will learn how to automate this. 😉
All in all, it is a fun game. And those who play are anxious to see how many personal tax returns are actually done. And of course, to see who will win the prize, which is generally different year to year.
BUT my point to this blog…my clients are MORE THAN JUST A NUMBER. In my practice, I like to have fun. What we do isn’t always fun…or at least for our clients it isn’t. Our goal is to make taxes as stress free and painless as possible. Playing games like this just makes tax season that much brighter for everyone.
SO if you are a client and think you are JUST A NUMBER, you most definitely aren’t. I am truly grateful for each and every client. This past Tuesday, May 3, I celebrated 5 years in business. This is all because of each and every ONE of you. Thank you for putting your trust and faith in me! Thank you for referring your friends, family and neighbours (no joke, there is a street in Coquitlam that almost everyone who lives there is a client of mine and yes, there is more than one house on the street lol).
Without you, I would have no business.
Thank you for the last 5 years. I am so excited to see what is to come and look forward to sharing that with you.Remember, always seek the advice of a Professional CPA. And don’t forget to watch for next tax season’s contest and the ones that are done between now and then🙂
